Salvaged portholes

Hi,

I've found some salvaged portholes for my new-build, pictures attached.

To me they seem ideal. I can't get hold of comparable portholes for anything like the price, in fact I can't find comparable new portholes at all. The offerings I find look flimsy and tinny by comparison.

Before buying, are there questions I should ask? The hinges and dogs I'm told are all in good working order.

Is there any reason at all I shouldn't snap these portholes up?

Kind regards,

James

Have you tried Trinity Marine just outside Exeter. They have an amazing selection of old and new portholes. C

Hi I am very surprised. I went down there several weeks ago and they had more portholes than you could shake a stick at. Old and new. C

James,

Are the seals and glass rubbers in good nick? And is the glass toughened?

I got new portholes from Trinity and they are the proper items. Also weld in from Amsterdam, but Trinity now sell them.

I looked at salvage ones but the cost of refurb and cleaning outweighed the cost of new ones.

Colin, hi,

Maybe I should call Trinity on Monday, see what they say about both the new
ones and used that they have in stock.

Kind regards,

James

The glasses appear identical to weld in ones fitted to my barge in Rotterdam three years ago. My outers are weld on with 100mm steel tubes allowing the portholes to be recessed into the insulation and closer to the internal lining face. I don't know the cost as it was lost in the big bill.
If yours are the weld on brand spares and gaskets should be readily available.
