Do I use teak oil or not? A few forums seem to advise against it, but I was under the impression that teak oil was the best product to maintain wood.

Well as no one else has replied the only help I can offer is to suggest that that anything that actually soaks in to the wood, be it teak oil or anything like it will improve the chances of the wood not rotting and anything that just coats the wood, varnish and suchlike will trap water and encourage rot. might be worth googling sites like sikkens and others to see what they say.

Owatrol oil may be worth looking into. Several skippers swear by it for keeping wood in good condition.

Best of luck
