Hi all, whilst on our recent trip we have met a number of lovely new barging folk, one of which had a really handy piece of kit that we really liked, unfortunately the owners of the barge could not remember what it was called but they knew they bought it in Holland. So here goes, can anyone assist.
What we are looking for is ultimately a horseshoe shaped piece of plastic that attaches to an extendable pole. Your mooring rope is looped around it and this then helps you to hook a bollard above your head when coming into, say a lock. Once the hook/loop is over the bollard you pull it away leaving your mooring line in place. I have looked on line at "mooring aids" but only found the yachty bouy catcher things.

HI Sue,Someone on WOMEN ON BARGES posted a pic of the ultimate boat hook, made in Sweden. We wondered if our heavy mooring lines would work with it.

Best wishes,

Handy-duck is prob'ly what you've seen:

http://www.outdoorgb.com/p/the_handy_duck_mooring_hook/

but there's also this:

http://www.rochemarine.co.uk/robship-hook-moor/

which is a more elegant and expensive solution; ok for rings & cleats but doesn't do posts as handy-duck does.

We have the former, as yet unused. It will be only used to acquire post/ring/cleat/buoy on initial approach, subsequently being replaced with a 'proper' mooring rope.

The Hook & Moor  from Sweden    http://www.rochemarine.co.uk/robship-hook-moor/   was the one we saw.

I use a home made "Preliminary Mooring Hook" to pick up rings, loops, bars and similar mooring apparatus and hold the boat against its (idling) engine until I have made my main moorings fast.
This is made from stuff I already had on board.
See attached PDF for details and pictures.
