Does anyone know of a yard with either a slipway or a crane capable of Lifting a 47 ton barge. I have a failing weld on a repair I had done in the Netherlands on my stern gear letting which is letting in Water . It has started today and I am nervous of moving to far we are moored at Ecluse 3 Viesville canal Bruxelles Charleroi. If it fails altogether it will sink the boat.

HI,
There is a product called Splash Zone that we wirh steel yachts always kept on board for such emergencies. It is activated even under water. I don't know if it is available in this side of the globe but if it isn't there will be similar products available that would seal up the leak -- even temporarily.

Good luck

Hello Dave,

Your best bet is the old Vankerkoven yard at Pont de Loup - now owned and run by Meuse et Sambre.
That is only 4 locks ahead of you beyond Charleroi.
They have a huge side-lift for up to 110m barges (Neeltje knows it well) and a dry dock.

The two answers to Dave's question could have been found in a few seconds in the DBA Waterways Guide.

Don't forget that the Guide is not just for moorings! Check that any shipyard you know is listed (and up-to-date).

I get "Sorry - there are no guides meeting your selection choices at the moment."
From http://www.barges.org/members/waterwaysguide/waterwaysguide-search# I selected 'Belgium', 'Charleroi-Bruxelles, Canal' and ticked the 'Shipyard' box, then clicked 'List'.
After that it seems to find nothing anywhere no matter which boxes you tick or untick and which dropdown selections you make. Using either Firefox or IE.

As the man who passed the website baton to me, David of all people should know how to use the Waterways Guide. The two shipyards are not on the Charleroi-Bruxelles canal, so his response from the Guide is correct.

Select Belgium, All - tick 'Shipyards' and click on Map - then home in on where you are. Click on the nearest marker for details.

No it's definitely a bug, which I don't recall seeing before.

It seems to be related to not clicking every 'Find' icon at every stage and relying on the final 'list' find icon as teh auto dropdowmns and text suggests. I can't pin it down between 2 bug behaviours - failing to find anything for everything ticked or returning to the search screen with no message and no results.

I wouldn't have noticed it before as I always entered the waterways guild by the map option, this seems to have disappeared as I think I mentioned a while back. I always preferred a map entry interface for a map based system can we get that back?
