AIS value I suspect will be limited due to display restrictions (LCD) and not a comprehensive display of GPS info either, but as an pre-curser of things to come?

Not for everyone, obviously, but an all in one incorporating a chart plotter with a colour display can't be far off ?? I'd have one ...

But if they have a serial/RS232 output port, then the info can be simply displayed on PC using freeware eg NavMonPC.

But Colin, we don't all want PC's cluttering the place up ... plus getting a computer monitor you can see in bright sunlight, not in a wheelhouse ... and waterproof ??

And the OP was expressing an interest in a chartplotter sized device anyway!
