Hi all,
I am having great difficulty finding parts or an exchange unit for my DAF 575 starter motor.
The bending is the critical item, but would be overjoyed to be able to get hold of a replacement or service exchange unit.
any ideas?
Cliff.

Perhaps try. '' j.otto-KGC308jNUwUZNB9WH+***@public.gmane.org ''
Vinkdiesel seem to have any and every DAF 825 part that I ask for.
Cheers

Vink Diesel should be good. Mine was replaced by Antoon van der Loos in Alphen and by Diesel Büchli in Harderwijk. Both sourced the motor/ gear from ASE. I have details for Antoon & DB if you need them.

If the small cog on the starter motor is badly worn you may well need a new flywheel. I had a cog (with only three teeth left) replaced in Spring 2010 using a complete exchange starter motor for €600! Antoon correctly guessed it might see us through the year before he'd need to change the flywheel. Late summer, the Bendix cog had to be replaced again - totally free of charge under ASE's warranty! Just after, I got a friendly phone call from ASE, pleasantly telling me to get the flywheel changed as I wouldn't get a second replacement free! It cost about €700 for the new flywheel & labour & BTW.

Hi Cliff,

As well as the company already mentioned for DAF parts, you could try www.markplaats.nl
It's the Dutch partner of Ebay I believe.
There are three starter motors on there at the moment.
A 12 volt starter motor, described "Zo goed als nieuw" for Euro 150.
Or a 24 volt version also described as "Zo goed als nieuw" but looks to be in need of some paint for Euro 125.
Another 24v motor looks "new" but no price but someone has offered just Euro 60.

Many professional suppliers use this website so happy shopping.

Thank you everyone - I looked on the Dutch eBay as saw the €60 bid.... decided to try eBay here. Looks like a couple of options. Will let you know how I get on. Cliff.

Cliff,

In 2007/08 I sourced a supplier of replacement Bosch starter motor pinions,
used on the 475/575/615 DAF engines. I think that I bought 6 for members
who needed a spare or replacement one. If you, or any one else is
interested I can go back and see whether they are still available. The
price then was about £60 including shipping and VAT. The 24v Bosch starter
part number is 10001402069-24v-4PS and the pinion number is 2006381560.

If you are have one of these DAF engines it might be
useful for you to consider whether you would like to buy a spare pinion and
carry it in your spares kit. A non working starter motor, which fails in
the wilds, can prove to be a severe embarassment! If you do feel that you
might
like a spare, let me know, direct to me and I'll see what I can find.

Hi everyone,

Cliff did a lot of research - including asking advice here - and bought a Volvo FL10 starter motor.
It fits and it works!!!

This starter motor is much easier to source as the trucks it was fitted in are more recent.

It may be a good idea to have this noted somewhere - I'll look into that later after we've finished our celebratory breakfast ☺

Now we've come down off the ceiling.....Cliff's looked at his eBay account and it's a

Volvo B12 coach starter motor.
He bought it on ebay from victoria-autoparts

The invoice shows they are 'MACPA Ltd t/a Victoriaautopart, with a website: victoriaautoparts.co.uk
Their Part number: STM906
