Hello Michael,

Have you read the advice here - http://www.barges.org/knowledgebase/regulations/regulations-boats ?

Your survey may be acceptable as the out of water survey for TRIWV if it was carried out in the same country as the one the surveyor is using for certification.

Send me a private message or phone if you have further questions or concerns!

Hi AndyThank you very much for your quick response. That could be fantastic news. The survey was carried out in the VNF dry dock in Toulouse. The surveyor was Alan Broomfield from the Enfield office of the British waterways. It was a very comprehensive survey covering all aspects of the boat. I do not have the brochure to hand but it was some 40 pages
Thank you for the link Ill have a look and if i may get back to you regarding moving forward with this licence
Kind regards Michael Tubb

I'm not sure that it is a 'requirement' for the survey to be done in the same country. It is up to the Community Certificate (TRIVW) surveyor whether an existing survey is acceptable. Naturally he/she may prefer one in their own language to their national standards - but not necessarily. The surveyor has great discretion, as the certificate is essentially a judgement that the boat is safe.

Much of the differing stories about the CC arise from different experiences with different surveyors and different boats. The best advice seems to be to look through the DBA summary that Andy has referred to and clear up any easy & obvious deficiencies (e.g. fire extinguishers, ropes, etc. Then call in a surveyor to see wht else HE requires to issue a CC.

Note that the CC can be issued with a list of work required within a reasonable time and is issued for defined classes of waterway. Notably, without the Rhine the standard for the certificate is less demanding, and the survey simpler.

I had a UK (Cornish!!) survey and have a Dutch TRIWV. Its up to the inspector but the nationality of the survey shouldn't be an issue.
