Lister JP4 disposal

I am about to change my engine because the dear old Lister JP4 is showing its age (made in about 1944 I think). It runs OK but is starting to drip oil slowly, there are traces of oil in the cooling water discharge. It needs a major overhaul or a replacement.

I am told that these engines are something of a collectors item, which may help in how I dispose of the old girl.
Any comments or advice please?

Hi Bret

As narrow boaters are usually into such powerplants it might be worth an advert or a forum entry on http://www.canalworld.net/forums/ under vintage engines. Loads of Lister anoraks on there.

You may need to set yourself up on the forum but that is free and no hardship. Their forums (forae??) are a useful addition to our own in the DBA and there is a lot of crossover.

Cheers

Tim

Tim,
Thank you very much for the information and advice. I have found an engineer who can refurbish the engine and have decided to keep the engine after all.
Thanks again
Bret

Hi. The supps list is in the library. It is an Excel spreadsheet at present although you can search it. The aim is to integrate it with the waterways guide in the near future to make it more functional, and different programmes are being looked at to that end.  Let me know if you have problems and I'll email it to you. Bret hasn't told me the engineers name yet though, but there may be others on there to help you.
