First of all its not punishment to charge the batteries this way. And I have only quoted what my supplier PowerCell batteries have told me.

Ok traction cells.  I do understand they can take a lot of punishment including deep discharges and fast charges but isn't  the lead acid chemistry the same?  Apparently a traction cell would prefer 2.35V per 2V cell (14.1V for 6 cells) www.tractionbattery.co.uk/acatalog/Frequently_Asked_Questions.html#question3

Kevin can you tell me what they said exactly? I can't see anything stating charging voltages on their website www.powercell.co.uk. Just some slightly concerning stuff about inverter chargers with fancy new names ('Fronius' ' a new era has begun') and scrap battery 'regeneration'.

Agreed putting 16.08V into a 12V battery (or 6 x 2V cells) is not punishment. 'Torture' is perhaps more accurate.
