Can anybody recommend a reliable bulk supplier for Gas oil (white) in the Auxerre , Nivernais regions. An what could you expect to pay for say 1500 ltr. There.. is mention of the dia. of the fill pipe. What is full size? The fill pipe I have is 2 inch approx. vents are 1 inch.

Douglas... A few weeks ago we used the local BP dealer in Vincelles 21 kilometres upstream from Auxerre. Quick, efficient service at 5 cents below the posted supermarket rate. I forget their name, but their office is a couple of blocks from the moorings, west along the main street of town.

Our barge near Rotterdam has 2 x 1200 litre tanks. Last month we topped up with 1100 liters. We had the options of BP pump @ €1.47 with a credit card, supermarket pump with a debit card €1.38/l. Both require carting drums of fuel between the pump and the barge 20 liters per drum!
Local fuel truck delivery to barge €1.30/l cash price and local bunker ship €1.25/l cash. A neighbor came with us to the bunker ship at the same time to buy 900liters same price.
Cash is king. It helps if the initial price discussion is face to face. We did receive a receipt ,of sorts, so we can demonstrate we have paid tax.
Our filler is 2 inch as is the breather to let the vent air out. Filling took about 15 minutes and we did it on a Sunday morning so as not to tie up the filling station duringba busy time.
I would see the legal responsibility for the fuel is the supplier up to the nozzle exit and the barge owner / operator from the tank filler on. If the tank vents. Spray of oil it's the barge operators problem. The lack of insurance coverage may be an easy excuse which realy means it's too hard for them.

At Sillery this year, lent another boat our sack truck to transport fuel from garage to his boat at about 1.30L.
Then he saw a fuel truck filling another boat and returned the sack truck saying he had been quoted 1.25 by the fuel truck.
When he showed me the bill later on we calculated that with TVA, delivery charge and an "on-site" charge added, he had actually paid around 1.58 per litre.
Goes to show it's not what they might quote, but the extras which count.

Douglas... It was about €1.30 including tax, with no fee nor additional charges. We took on only 400 litres.
