Bilge protection

I have a new build (Euroships) barge and one of the water tanks has been leaking. We only noticed this because upon returning from holiday there was a smell similar to battery fumes but is actually rusty water in the bilge where it has been lying around the railway track ballast. I've pumped all of the water out but would like to flush through with something that may afford some protection. Any suggestions? Unfortunately I have limited (very little) access to the bilges.

you might try flushing with water mixed with central heating rust inhibitor. It is designed to be used in permanently wet environment but I expect it can be used where drying out will occur. Not certain though so do research it - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corrosion_inhibitor

Alternatively a lot of water based rust converter like Vactan or Kurust but would be expensive.
