Is there any reason that the pre 1801 Britsh ensign with no Irish red saltire is used in the article on flag etiquette in the current (Oct 2014) issue of Blue Flag (p27)?

And as the topic is Flag Suppliers, I wonder who might sell you one? Or without the Scottish saltire - as we might have needed after last week? Would the Union flag have had to be changed if the Scots had voted Yes?
