Try getting some deodorised fish oil. Ie: http://www.septone.com.au/detail.asp?item_number=356
We live next to the sea and rust is a major issue and have found fish oil really good. Easy to spray into hard to reach areas. Stinks for a few days but once dry you get an airtight seal over the area sprayed and no smell.
